IRELAND Head Coach, Andy Farrell, said he was "blown away" with the support his team received in France today as his side blitzed through Romania to register a record World cup victory.

Farrell jokingly said that it "wasn't the start of the game they would have wanted" but gave serious credit Romania who fronted up in their defence against the world's number one ranked side.

"They were very physical, there were athletes on their side hitting us on the breaks early so it was a bit stop-start in that first half, but the flow in the second-half of us backing ourselves and being nice and calm was top drawer."

Ireland scored a record 12 tries in their opening game of Group B where there will be tougher teams to face down the line like South Africa and Scotland.

Despite the record score, Andy maintained that the most important thing about the win was the "connect with the fans."

"It's just unbelievable support, we see it often on the big stages as far as the Irish fans are concerned, so hopefully they enjoyed the start of that journey and we can take them along for the ride in this World Cup."
