Teenager dies tragically in Midlands following quad bike accident

A teenage boy from the Midlands has died in what is understood to be a quad bike accident.

The boy, aged 16, lost his life after an incident on Easter Sunday in an incident in the wooded area near Emo, Co Laois.

Gardaí in Portlaoise have confirmed that a teenager lost his life in what they are treating as an accident around 2pm on Sunday, April 9.

Gardaí were still on the scene on at 7pm.

The deceased, who has not yet been named, is understood to be from a well-known Portlaoise family. 

He has also attended St Mary's CBS Portlaoise and was an emerging GAA talent in the town and county.
