Gardaí issue alert to Longford motorists following Met Éireann yellow warning for snow
Heavy snows on Monday, February 5 may cause hazardous driving conditions in Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, East Cork, Tipperary and Waterford.
The Garda are urging everyone to check weather and traffic conditions before going out, to clear windscreens by using de-icer and screen scraper and to not leave cars running and unattended.
They have also asked if drivers could reduce speeds, leave more braking distance between cars, to watch out for cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrains and to at all times keep dipped headlights.
Cyclists and motorcyclists are asked to consider other modes of transport and pedestrains should stay on the footpath.
