A local Fianna Fáil representative called on Longford County Council to explore 'the potential of and carry out a Low-Cost Safety Scheme' (LCSS).


At the recent meeting of Granard Municipal District, Cllr David Cassidy requested that the assessment take place 'where the L-5092 meets the L-1041 at Esker, Killoe to improve visibility at the stop sign when turning onto the L-1041 where visibility is significantly obstructed for road users' to see oncoming traffic.

"I hope it will be considered. Three or four people on that road have approached me and I'd like to see something done with it."


Fine Gael’s Cllr Colin Dalton seconded the motion, while Independent Cllr Turlough McGovern also supported it.


The Independent representative stated a lot of landowners "do not realise it is up to them to cut it (hedges)", but naturally enough they are responsible once it is on their own land”.

Cllr McGovern said two weeks ago the vision for motorists was significantly obstructed in the area and it was not possible to see oncoming traffic.


District engineer Joe Gorman responded and stated that Longford County Council 'would explore opportunities' and report back to local representatives in due course.
