The Old School New School motoring event is back for this year at St Mel’s College in Longford town. Taking place on Sunday, July 9 and beginning from 11:30am until 4pm, the event will display an array of high-quality vehicles.

It is the seventh year since launching. Founder and organiser, Niall Gerety, spoke about his love for cars since childhood to entering the car scene himself.

“I went to shows all over Ireland, England and Europe,” he said. “I realised that I could bring something to Longford instead of travelling all over the world.”

Based on previous years, 3,000 people on average attend the day. 400 cars from all over Ireland have participated. In January, the show had already started advertising to gather high standard cars to participate, which was open via application on the OSNS website.

This is not just about car enthusiasts admiring modified and high quality cars. Niall stated that the event is for family. Children enter for €5 each, but further payments are not required for them to enjoy all the attractions. These include face painting, balloon modelling, mascots, disco and remote control cars. There is also a gaming van to play the PS4/5 and Xbox.  The parents are not required to pay any more than the entry fee for their children once they get inside. Adults are €20 per person. The show has introduced a student and OAP discount, which reduces the entry fee to €10.

The money goes towards a good cause.

Niall continued, “It is the only show in the midlands for cars. Every year, the money is donated to charity. Over the last seven years, over €70,000 has been given to local charity. This year goes towards St Mel’s College to help them with the new indoor handball facility.”

There is no committee for the Old School New School event. Niall, who founded it, makes it possible with the help of good friends and family. He stated that they help make it a success.

To lessen queues at the gates on the day, Niall recommends spectators to buy their tickets on the OSNS website.
