N55 between Edgeworthstown and Ballymahon will be closed from 8am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday

ALERT | Longford motorists urged to note that N55 will be closed for three weeks

Longford motorists are being urged to take note that the N55 between Edgeworthstown and Ballymahon will be closed from 8am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, for three weeks, from Monday next, February 12.

The closure is to facilitate the N55 Meeltanagh Pavement Overlay Scheme between Edgeworthstown and Carrickboy.

The road will be open to traffic each weekend. 

The dates of the closure is from Monday, February 12 to Friday, February 16; Monday, February 19 to Friday, February 23 and Monday, February 26 to Friday, March 1. 

The following are the alternative routes;
  
Edgeworthstown to Ballymahon: Divert at Edgeworthstown to Longford via the N4. Take the N63 towards Roscommon. At Ballymacormack, turn left onto the R397 to Kenagh/ Ballymahon. Turn left at Terlicken and take the R392 to Ballymahon.

Ballymahon to Edgworthstown: Divert at Ballymahon via R392 towards Lanesboro. Turn right onto R397 to Longford via Kenagh. At Ballymacormack take N63 towards Longford, then follow signs for N4 Dublin to Edgeworthstown.

Heavy Goods Traffic (HGV) should follow the HGV detour route around Longford town.

Local access will be permitted to Carrickboy along the N55 from Ballymahon during hours of closure.

Longford County Council  advises that "in the interest of road safety, you are requested to follow diversions and heed all signs."
