Major Longford cultural attraction set to feature on British TV station tonight

Danish-British broadcaster, author and comedian Sandi Toksvig was in Ireland last May and she filmed at the Maria Edgeworth Centre in Edgeworthstown for a new, two-part travel series.
The Maria Edgeworth Centre in Edgeworthstown is set to feature in a new series on More4 presented by Sandi Toksvig which begins tonight (Thursday).
Danish-British broadcaster, author and comedian Sandi Toksvig was in Ireland last May, filming for a brand-new, two-part travel series called Sandi Toksvig’s Irish Odyssey.
The upcoming programme of ‘Sandi’s Ireland A literary Journey’ will be broadcast on Thursday, September 3 on the More 4 digital channel owned by Channel Four and it is being supported by Tourism Ireland.
Produced by Cornelia Street Productions, the series will see Sandi – a lifelong lover of literature, theatre and music – follow in the footsteps of some of Ireland’s literary greats, exploring the landscapes, places and people that have inspired some of our greatest writers, poets and storytellers.
Earlier this year the broadcaster and TV presenter Sandi Toksvig travelled around Ireland filming a travel series for More4.
Sandi travels around Ireland and visits numerous places telling the stories of Ireland’s greatest writers, Yeats, Swift, Heaney, Kavanagh and Maria Edgeworth.
Sandi travels to Edgeworthstown to visit the wonderful Maria Edgeworth Visitor Centre & Museum where she is met by Dr Susan Manly of St Andrew’s University who is an expert on Maria Edgeworth.
On her visit Sandi remarked, “I am ashamed to say I’d never heard of Maria Edgeworth until making this show, but she was the writer Jane Austen aspired to be, I think Maria’s problem is that she didn’t get into the movie business.”
The staff at the Maria Edgeworth Centre are delighted that the legacy of this great female writer will be remembered in the show and are hopeful that the exposure to a large audience in Britain will attract more visitors to Longford.
