Longford’s feel-good stories set to shine in major new social media campaign

A major social media campaign, #LoveLifeLoveLongford, will officially launch on June 9
Late last year, Councillor Peggy Nolan told the Chief Executive of Longford County Council, Paddy Mahon, of an idea she’d had to show Longford in the light it deserved.
The idea in question had not been on the agenda for the meeting that day, however, following a discussion on the impact of specific incidents when it came to nationwide perception of the town, she was prompted to present her idea; a solution in which the council could promote the beauty of Longford and its many strengths.
Fast forward mere months and not only is the idea now a fully operational campaign, it’s even ready to launch!
Today, Longford County Council announced that a major social media drive #LoveLifeLoveLongford will go live on Tuesday June 9 and will celebrate the positive stories, the people and the places that make the county a great place to live, work, visit and invest.
Spearheaded by Cllr Peggy Nolan and led by the council’s communications team, the eight-week campaign will feature a series of short video messages from well-known local figures, members of the public and Longford Municipal District councillors.
The initiative aims to highlight everyday experiences across the county while encouraging a stronger sense of pride in Longford.
It will showcase a wide range of voices and perspectives, with residents invited to share their own short videos explaining why they love the county.
Contributions can be posted using the hashtag #LoveLifeLoveLongford, tagging Longford County Council and Longford Tourism.
Speaking about the campaign, Cllr Peggy Nolan said it provided an opportunity to highlight positive stories from across Longford and showcase Longford as the welcoming and active place it is.
“This campaign is our opportunity to answer the naysayers and those who run down our town by putting the truth out there. With the support of Longford County Council and Longford Tourism, we can challenge the negativity and replace it with pride and positivity. I am calling on people to get involved, say it loud and say it proud - Longford is open for business and Longford is a place we can all be proud of.”

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Garry Murtagh, said Longford is made up of vibrant communities and strong local networks, adding that the campaign reflects the county’s ambition to support people to live, work, invest, visit and grow within the region.
Said Cllr Murtagh, “Our vision is to make Longford a place where people can live, work, invest, visit and grow old. There are real opportunities here, and strong supports to back them up. This campaign encourages people to look around their own parishes and communities and take pride in all that is happening.”
Chief Executive of Longford County Council, Paddy Mahon, said the campaign will give people a platform to share what makes Longford special.
He added, “By sharing everyday stories and positive experiences, we are helping to build confidence in Longford and showing the reality of life here, a county with strong communities, ambition and potential.”
Longford County Council said it will reshare public submissions where content aligns with its social media policy and quality standards.
The campaign will run for eight weeks from its launch on June 9
