Tractor runs have become a new tradition in recent years. The Christmas Tractor Run encourages farmers to decorate their tractors in Christmas lights and tour around the local area in convoy is something that not only brightens up the darkness of winter but also brings a great festive lift to the towns and villages as they pass through.
Kevin Brady of Streete Parish Park said it is fantastic to see the many young farmers and clubs come out in aid of local charities. It was towards the end of 2021.
“The committee of Streete Parish Park sat down at his kitchen table thinking of new ways to help and support local charities in our local area.
“We are delighted to have supported charities which are in great need of funding to help them through the difficult times. For the past many years, we organised a run, walk in aid of St Christopher's, Edgeworthstown branch.
“Then Covid came along and the need to social distance, so this was a contributing factor in why we had to slightly reinvent the wheel. So last year we decided to organise a fairy light tractor run which proved a great success.”
“Tractor Runs aid and support charities all across the country,” Kevin said, “we aim to support the local ones which are close to our heart, our event is planned for Wednesday, December 28.
“Streete Vintage Club day is widely known and we look forward to what has now become the annual fairy light Tractor Run, an event which could not take place without the help of volunteers and clubs in the locality.
“The run itself begins at Streete Parish Park and will take a loop around the local area taking in Lismacaffrey, Killasonna, Abbeylara, Granard and back to the Park via Lisryan and Streete.
“Spectators are kindly asked to wrap up well and stop at a safe area and please contribute to our bucket collectors. Registration is €20 and drivers are asked to arrive as early as possible, Strict safety rules apply to everyone.
“We will pull out at 6pm with refreshments available for drivers on return.”
