Plans are in place to refurbish 12 derelict houses in Granard's Colmcille Terrace.
Work on Colmcille Terrace in Granard is set to commence early next year. The project for the terrace of houses in Granard was first announced in 2018 and residents have been unhappy with the rate of progress of the redevelopment.
At the December meeting of the authority Cllr PJ O'Reilly asked for a report on the progress of the multi-million euro refurbishment of Colmcille Terrace in the town. The plan to refurbish 12 derelict houses in the estate was announced in 2018 by the then Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy, but work has yet to take place.
Longford Council is working in partnership with the housing agency Tuath on the project. The reply from the Executive indicated where the project stood: “The Tuath Housing Association have gone out to tender on the scheme. They have shortlisted several contractors. The final tenders were received today (Wednesday, December 14) and four contractors were invited to price the job. They are being assessed and a report will be sent to us early in 2023, with work to start in Spring of 2023.”
Responding to the news, Cllr Reilly said: “That is good to hear. Residents have been a long time waiting for work to be carried out. It's good to see progress.”
