Many people regard the Longford County Choir’s Christmas Celebration Concert as being the beginning of the Christmas festivities.
It is scheduled to take place in St Mel’s Cathedral, Longford on Sunday, December 18 at 7.30pm.
Admission is free with an option of making a donation to local charities on the door.
The choir has raised over €70,000 for local charities through this event over the years and it is a great opportunity for our loyal audience to donate while also enjoying the beautiful Christmas music in the magnificent setting of St Mel’s Cathedral.
The choir has prepared a wonderful programme of seasonal favourites new and old under the direction of its Musical Director, Fintan Farrelly.
It will feature the brilliant soprano Eileen Coyle from Mullahoran just across the Cavan border and will be accompanied by the well known Arioso String Quartet and Fintan Farrelly on the piano and organ.
Longford County Choir is a community choir and its members are from Longford and the adjoining counties. They rehearse every Wednesday at 7.30 pm in the Sylvia Dawson Hall on the St Christopher’s complex at Battery Rd, Longford. New members are always welcome.
The choir recently performed the magnificent work by Karl Jenkins entitled ‘The Peacemakers’.
This was part of a service for peace conducted by Fr MacKiernan Adm.
Following a long lay off due to Covid restrictions it is wonderful to be back singing again.
Booking should be made early on Eventbrite to ensure a seat.
The concert is being supported by Longford County Council through its Community Grant and Creative Ireland Programme.
