The health watchdog has given a glowing report to a local centre that provides care to adults with disabilities.
Officials from the Health Information and Quality Authority (Hiqa) carried out an unannounced inspection at Morlea House, a facility run by St Christopher’s Services, was found to be substantially compliant in all areas when inspectors visited the premises on August 5.
In its 16 page report, Hiqa referenced how the centre more than met the needs of the six residents who were present on the day of the inspection.
“Residents had comprehensive assessments of needs completed which included an assessment of health-related needs,” the report stated.
“Each resident had care and support plans developed based on their individual needs which provided guidance to staff in how to provide safe and effective care. Residents’ plans were found to be comprehensive and detailed individual supports and aids required in the area of personal care.
“Intimate and personal care plans also included the supports residents required with hand hygiene.”
The report also included how one resident personally greeted the inspector upon their arrival in their preferred communication method about what it was like to live at the centre.
They showed the inspector around their home and it was noted to be clean, homely and personalised.
The resident had been swimming earlier that day in a leisure centre nearby, and they were relaxing watching television at the time the inspector called, adding that the service user appeared “happy and content” in the facility.
Cleaning schedules and policies aimed at minimising the risk of Covid-19 were given just as much credit by inspectors.
“The inspector found that the service provided person-centred care to residents andthat the arrangements in place promoted safe and individualised care,” added the report.
“Residents appeared happy and comfortable in their home environment and with staff supporting them.”
