Seamus O'Rourke is one of the hardest working actors in Ireland. Way back in the olden days, before the Covid pandemic, posters for his shows were like milestones on the highways and byways of the country from the toe to the tip.
Nowadays the award-winning playwright, director and author used social media as means of informing audiences where his next laughter packed play will be staged.
For his next show the Carrigallen man makes his way to the Arts, Culture and Heritage Centre for three provinces, The Haggard in Moyne. Poetic, chaotic and funny, 'The Ballad of Mossy Flood' is another O'Rourke penned drama exploring the uniqueness of life in rural Ireland.
On Seamus O'Rourke's Facebook page he posted a picture of the titular character, Mossy Flood, along with Michael Masterson of 'The Haggard' as they discussed the world premiere of the new play.
He explains that all proceeds from the night will be split between three charities; MSA (Multiple System Atrophy); IMNDA (The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association) and Concern, all charities with local connections.
The post said: “These two rare intellects were at loggerheads over the dress code. Are Wellingtons acceptable? Is rubber still chic? “It was also noted that, due to some generous donations of wine, the last remaining days of Lent may be compromised at this world event.
“Furthermore, due to the intimacy of the setting, tickets are now only available on the black market, the flashing of Pension Books, Lord Mayor chains, Cow chains or County Council chippings will not guarantee entry,” the post says.
If you fail to garner one of the aforementioned hens' teeth the show will be in the Corn Mill Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, April 8 and 9.
The world premier of 'The Ballad of Mossy Flood' takes place in The Haggard on Thursday, April 6 2023 at 8pm.
