Longford greyhound track
A Longford councillor has called for a “masterplan” to be developed for the future regeneration of the county town’s former greyhound track.
Cllr Peggy Nolan tabled the plea at last week’s Longford Municipal District meeting after previous calls for a pump track to be added to the proposed skate park facilities on the site.
Without making reference to the latter suggestion, Cllr Nolan said it was important that ideas for the seven acre site weren’t added in a “piecemeal” fashion.
“At the last meeting we were taking loads of different ideas as to what was going into the dog track and it really was a worrying scenario for me,” she said.
“If the masterplan can be drawn up as a parks area we can always allocate different spaces within that for whatever we need, so that we won’t be throwing stuff piecemeal at it.
“We know what is needed for the youth of the town and we are quite prepared to step up to the plate,” Cllr Nolan said.
Director of Services John Brannigan said while he wasn't opposed to the idea, such a document would have to be a “work in progress” over a number of years.
