The work is part a new initiative, St.Art, which is aimed at revitalising public art across Longford Town.

In addition to restoring existing street art, new murals will also be commissioned.

Engage Longford, an “artists-led not-for-profit initiative that provides a platform to promote Longford as a hub for contemporary visual art”, said the initiative will build on the legacy of the street art element of the Cruthú Arts Festival, an Irish midlands arts movement which ran between 2014 and 2019, with Engage having previously been involved in curating the street art element of the festival programme.

A “a self-guided art trail of Longford's outdoor public art gallery” is also in the works. This will enable people to explore and enjoy the street art throughout the town.

Over the coming months, Engage Longford plans to restore remaining murals created during the Cruthú years, while also commissioning new works from talented artists.
