Kathleen Delaney of 2 Saint Michael’s Road, Longford, who was recently released from prison, was brought before Longford District Court charged with theft. Solicitor Adrian Gillick represented the accused.

A woman who recently completed a six month sentence, has appeared back before Longford District Court charged with the theft of over €70 worth of alcohol.

51-year-old Kathleen Delaney of 2 Saint Michael’s Road, Longford, stands accused of having stolen assorted wine and gin to the value of €73.23.

The offence is alleged to have occurred in Aldi on the Athlone Road on June 20 last year. The charge was brought before the court by Garda John Creegan.

Delaney’s legal representation, solicitor Adrian Gillick, told the court that his client had recently served a 6 month sentence in relation to a separate matter and that she was subject to a probation bond for a year.

He explained that his client was currently engaging with her probation officer and requested that the matter be adjourned as it was one of those affected by the withdrawal of services arising from the solicitor’s strike.

Addressing Court Sergeant Mark Mahon, Judge Owens said, “Sergeant, this was in for review, €80 was brought forward.” "I note there would have been relevant matters that could have invoked the suspended sentence.”

“In the circumstances where Ms Delaney has served a recent sentence, I’m going to apply Section 1(2) of the Probation Act. That finalises the matter for Ms Delaney.”
