The annual Longford Sleep Out in aid of the Midlands Simon community will take place again this year on Good Friday in Connolly Barracks. Sponsored once again by the Kiernan family and Kiernan Steel, the event is an important and popular fundraiser for the Midlands based organisation committed to combating homelessness.

To date, the event has raised close to €70,000 to support homeless services in the region and it has played a critical part in allowing the agency to open a dedicated accommodation centre for the homeless in Longford on Earl St. The ten unit apartment block is a key plank in the agency's efforts to combat homelessness and to keep rough sleepers off the streets of the main county town.

Local man, Noel Greene, is the fundraising manager for Midlands Simon, and he said the group are steadfastly committed to supporting their services in Longford but this work would not be possible without the generosity of the Longford public. He was also keen to point out the support of the Kiernan family and their successful steel business.

He said: “From the very outset the Kiernan family have stood with us shoulder to shoulder and have been the main and very generous sponsors for both the Sleep Out and the annual People of the Year awards. Without their support and the support of the Longford community, our work would not be possible.”

If you are interested in taking part in this year's sleep out, sponsorship cards are available and you can get them by contacting Noel Greene on 087 961 5766.
