There had been previous uncertainty about the strip of the Mall, which is going to be removed by an extension of the car park
With much concern over a strip of the Mall which was used recreationally for pétanque, as of Tuesday, October 7, a spokesperson from Longford County Council stated the following:
“The Boules area will be moved to extend the car park. The Boules area will be relocated adjacent to the new carpark extension. Works on this is planned for Q1 2026.”

There had been previous uncertainty about the strip of the Mall, which is going to be removed by an extension of the car park. This had ultimately led to an event planned on October 22 to advocate for the relocation of the strip, as it had been used by locals, as well as members from St Christopher's Services.
Shane Collins reached out but has given the update that the event to advocate the relocation of the pétanque site has been cancelled, as he and others have also received news from Longford County Council.
Instead, Shane has updated that October 22 will be used to celebrate getting a proper playing area for pétanque that other counties have. In response, Shane said that they will be receiving a proper strip which will be made before the extension of the car park.

"They really went out their way. That’s big money. A big asset for the Mall. We're very happy with the way council has treated us."
