The National Indoor Combined Events Championship took place in Abbotstown on Sunday and featured seven Longford athletes in the Juvenile Pentathlon. A busy day of action saw entrants take in the 60m Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put and 800m.
Andrew Fitzpatrick, a multiple-time medal winner at individual competition in recent years, enjoyed a superb debut in the combined events winning the Under 14 boys gold medal. A series of consistently impressive performances at each discipline led to Andrew accumulating 2246 points which was over 250 points clear of the runner-up.
Another convincing winner on the day was El’Nathan Okoh who showed his quality to top the podium in the U15 boys category. Once again, success was borne out of consistent points scoring across each of the five events. El’Nathan secured the victory with 2528 points to repeat his gold medal success at U14 level last year.
John Fitzpatrick Jr added to the Longford medal haul when winning silver in the U16 boys competition. Another strong display by John for second place and a total score of 2678 points to ensure he medaled at the event for the third successive year.
Emily Oge Nnachi was competing at the combined events for the first time and put together a good series of results for a top six finish of the U14 girls while Cadhla Golden also performed well in the U16 girls event.
Sam Davis and Kevin English achieved fine points tallies too in their respective categories as all Longford athletes gained more valuable experience ahead of upcoming competition at the Connacht Indoors in February.
