Promising Longford boxing star Martin Nevin has been causing quite a stir in the sport and his latest conquest in the ring was particularly significant against Solomon Dubois, a brother of former World Heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.
Son of well known local character Mick Nevin, the 13-year-old Martin travelled over to England last week to compete in the prestigious Barum Cup in beautiful Devon in south west England.
Affiliated to the Olympic Boxing Club in Galway, young Nevin boxed brilliantly to defeat fellow 13-year-old Dubois in the opening round before losing out to another English opponent in the semi-final of his division on a controversial split decision.
Famous face Daniel Dubois was among the attendance to watch his little brother in action in the top quality amateur bout, much to the great delight of Martin's proud father Mick who is doing the trick to make sure that his talented son gets the best opportunity in the sport.
Millionaire boxer Daniel Dubois defeated Anthony Joshua for a World title in the recent past and then fought Oleksandr Usyk from Ukraine for the undisputed World Heavyweight Champion which ended with a stunning knockout victory for Usyk at Wembley Stadium back in July.
