Joe Shannon has got his snooker season off to the perfect start winning the National junior shoot out in June and now winning the first under 16 National ranking event of the new season held in Snooker and Billiards Ireland Centre of Excellence in Carlow.
On the back of a comprehensive win for Team Ireland over Wales in the Celtic challenge in July in which Shannon out performed everyone in the competition. He later donned the Irish waistcoat as part of the Irish under 16 team competing in the home internationals in Leeds against 8 teams from Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and again he was a top performer on the Irish team being defeated by an England team in the semi-finals that went on to win the tournament
His next great honour is to be selected on the Irish International Challenge Cup team as the Junior representative where a 9 strong team travel to Dunkirk in France to compete against France, Malta, Scotland and Northern Ireland in mid September.
The St Mel’s College student is reaping the rewards to the sport he shows such dedication to and is well on course to compete in European and world competitions in the season ahead.
