Longford boxing star Martin Nevin in tremendous All-Ireland Youths title triumph

All-Ireland Boxing Champion Martin Nevin

12-year-old Martin Nevin from Longford town, a 6th class pupil in the local Gaelscoil, produced a tremendous performance to win one of the All-Ireland Youths boxing titles in the National Stadium.

Competing in the Boy 1 48kg division, Martin won his quarter-final and semi-final bouts this week on his way to being crowned the All-Ireland champion on the unanimous decision against a very good boxer from Kilkenny in the final on Friday last.

Young Nevin has now claimed Connacht and All-Ireland wins in his category, much to the sheer delight of his proud parents Mickey and Lisa, and the rising young star is looking to further his career in the world of boxing.

Affiliated to the Olympic Boxing Club in Galway where he is coached by John and Mike Mongan, Longford’s latest boxing champion would like to thank the members of both the traveller and settled community for their support.

He would also like to thank the support of the Gaelscoil Principal and Martin is looking forward to celebrating his Confirmation next week.
