Seville Marathon: Adrianna Mulligan, Donal Mulligan and Declan Newman were amongst the field of 12,000 for the Seville marathon.

Winter training paid off for Adrianna achieving a personal best of 2:46:52 finishing in the top 70 in the female category. Donal was marginally behind finishing in a time of 2:52:43

Unfortunately for Declan, he came down with illness during the week putting his best laid plans to bed.  Go again Declan.

Tony McGowan Run: The sun came out to play for the Tony McGowan runs in Drumshanbo. Super performances by John Scott, Patrick Prusak, and Zoran Salopek all achieving personal bests over the half marathon distance.

Anne Brady brought the silverware back to Longford finishing 1st in her age category. Seamus Murtagh and Colm Dooner also covered the distance.

Charlie Barone was the 1st Longford man home in the 10 kilometre race closely followed by Kevin Ward.  It was good to see Kevin on the roads again

Carmel Corr, Eleanor McLoughlin and Marian Dennigan all stepped up to the longer distance completing the 10 kilometres.

Marissa Hebron and Ann O'Brien cruised along over the 5 kilometres distance finishing closely together.

A proud day all round for our senior members.

“In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, "I have finished." There is a lot of satisfaction in that”.

National Indoors: At the National Senior Indoors in Abbotstown, Cian McPhillips put in a commanding performance to take Gold in the Men’s 800m crossing the line first in 1:52.79. It was a maiden senior title for Cian, running in the UCD colours, and he can look forward to the outdoor season with confidence.

15-year-old Robin Og Murphy placed an excellent seventh in the women’s 3k Walk in a new personal best time. Aaron Kelly clocked a good time in his 200m heat but was unable to advance to the final.

Connacht Indoors: Best of luck to the 43 athletes representing the club at the Connacht Championships in Athlone this weekend.

Reports Round-Up

U-12 Boys Subway Inter League

Longford made the trip to Castlebar on Saturday and returned to base with full points following their 5-3 win. In their final group game Longford played very well and as the dust settles it emerges that we top the group. We now await the draw for the quarter finals. From the start the visitors looked well organised and went about their task in a business like manner. Form keeper Oisin McGuinness out Longford used the ball well with telling passes. It was the home side that scored first but Longford soon were level with Mark Confrey connecting with a Darragh Shanley pass. Longford now stamped their authority on the game with El Nathan Okoh grabbing the first of his hat trick. Robert Flynn, Tom Hession and Paul Aigobun were involved in some lovely executed moves. Shanley got his goal after Robert O Malley turned provider. Superb performance from John Tynan's young charges.

U-13 Boys Subway Inter League

Longford beat Kildare 2-0 at Abbeycartron. Longford impressed from the start and had the visitors on the back foot. Two first half goals set the winners on their way. Senan Brody and Charlie Maguire got the goals. Defenders Conor Fox and Liam Doyle got on the ball quickly and dispatched it accurately. Ben McGlynn and Stephen Kelly reigned supreme in heavy conditions. Excellent overall performance from a well drilled Longford side.

U-14 Boys Trophy Semi-Final

Longford went out on a 3-2 scoreline to Wicklow at Abbeycartron. Longford scored after five minutes and again with five minutes to go, unfortunately Wicklow scored three goals in between. Wicklow were the better side overall and deserved the win but the home side had chances especially in the opening 15 minutes. Longford took the lead after Alvin Konton beat his marker raced to the end line and crossed the ball into the box with the inrushing Adam Donnelly applying the finish. Adam Kinlan and Diarmuid Galvin forced the Wicklow keeper to make saves as Longford carried the game to the visitors. Konton and Donnelly were playing well, while Dorian Doroz, Kian Treacy and Odhran Crossan looked assured in everything they did. Just on half time the visitors levelled from a free kick on the edge of the box. The second half saw the Wicklow side push forward and after 15 minutes they pounced to take the lead. Longford went in search of the equaliser and Ryan Kenny had a header just over from a corner. But Wicklow grabbed their third and while Konton pulled one back the visitors held on to reach the Final.

U-15 Boys Subway Inter League

Longford were beaten 3-1 by Clare in Ennis. Despite going down Longford played well with several well worked moves that had the home defence all over the place. Evan Lyons covered the ground in midfield with persistent hard graft. Aaron Oates and Senan Buckley linked up well together and were involved in the build up to the goal scored by Zac Kelly. Michael Murtagh was a solid defender.
