Longford’s Darragh Greene has gone so close to reaching the semi-finals of the 200m Breaststroke at the World Aquatics Championships in Japan.

Darragh won his heat this Thursday morning in 2:12.21, finishing in 18th place overall which is a great achievement on the world stage.

Greene is back in action on Sunday for the Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay.

He also went agonisingly close to a place in the 100m Breaststroke semi-finals at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan in the early hours of Sunday morning last.

Darragh, who trains at Swim Ireland’s National Centre in Dublin, was sixth in his heat in 1:00.54 for 19th overall, just .32 of a second off a semi-final place.

Greene returned to the pool for the heats of the 50m Breaststroke in Japan on Tuesday morning.

He won his heat of the 50m Breaststroke in 27.54 to finish in 22nd place overall in a brave but unsuccessful bid to reach the semi-finals in racing against some of the fastest swimmers in the world.
