All-Ireland Youths Boxing Champion John Nevin

Rising young boxing star John Nevin brought great honour to Longford when he won the All-Ireland 48kg Boy 3 title at the National Stadium on Saturday last.

After winning his semi-final bout on Thursday against the Dublin champion on a unanimous 5-0 scorecard, John was back in the ring to face the Ulster champion in the final.

Brilliant boxing by the 13-year-old St Mel’s College student saw him overcome a very tough opponent in a split 3/2 decision and he now moves on with the possibility of fighting for an All-Ireland selection in a tournament this year.

John, a son of former Longford Slashers footballer Martin ‘Butch’ Nevin, is affiliated to the Olympic Boxing Club in Galway.
