Longford Civil Defence team won the regional Civil Defence competition recently in Mullingar.
The Longford team of 12 volunteers were put through their paces on five separate sites, covering first aid, communications, foot-drill and searching, and came out on top, having competed with teams from Dublin, Kildare, Offaly and Sligo.
The team received a $500 grant to purchase equipment as first prize from the Civil Defence board.
Team list: Instructor – Fran Rhatigan, Leader - Sarah Jane Kelly; Karina Browne, Jennifer Byrne, Laurie Casey, Paraic Croghan, Peter Keenan, Seamus Kiernan, Sean McHugh, Melissa Mulvey, Marion Prendergast, Eddie Rhatigan and Martin Sheridan.
