Your prayers are requested for the happy repose the souls of Rose Kennedy, Glouchestershire, England, who died recently, formerly Rose Smith, Cloughernal; Fr. Oliver Devine, P. P. Mountnugent, Co. Cavan, a native of Delvin, Co. Westmeath, who died on Thursday, 29 October, Uncle of Irene Lynch, Toneymore. May they rest in peace.

Altar list for the Dead

Please take a list from the Church and write out the names of your dead on it, or use your own paper as a list and return to the box at the front of the Church. There will be two Masses each week during November offered for these and All Souls. The dead will be prayed for at all other Masses offered in the Parish especially during November and on until Christmas.

Mass for the Dead

Mass for the Dead November 2014 / 2015 will be offered on Friday, 27 November. More details in the coming weeks.

First Friday

Friday, 6 November is the First Friday. The sick and housebound will be attended as usual. First Friday Confessions will take place in Abbeylara Church at 7.00pm followed by First Friday Mass at 7.30pm. The Rosary and prayers will be offered for the Beatification of Fr. John Christopher Drumgoole on Friday, 6 November in Abbeylara after the 7.30pm Mass. You are welcome to take part.

Fatima First Saturday

Mass will be held on Saturday, 7 November in Carra at 11.00am with Confessions.


We welcome into the Christian Community, Eoghan Peter, son of Peter and Caroline O’Reilly, Renehan.

Active Age

We are having our Christmas Party in the Bloomfield Hotel on Sunday, 29 November from 12.30pm to 5.00pm.  We will be joining up with other clubs from the Midland Region. A four course meal, raffle for spot prizes and music by the Kavanagh’s.... Price only €25 per member.

Defibrillator Course

There will be a Defibrillator morning or evening Course available in Lus Na Greine subject to sufficient interest. A Professional Facilitator will be running the Course. There will be a Certificate on completion. The Course is limited to 8 places. For further information please call the centre on 043 6660977.

National Coin Week

Change for Charity: This is National Coin Week: Please bring your jar; bottle or bag of coins, put them into one of the receptacles, conveniently located all around the country including branches of Allied Irish Bank and Bank of Ireland. Money raised goes towards 5 key Irish charities together – The Irish Heart Foundation, St. Francis Hospice, Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services, Gaisce – the Presidents Awards and Irish Autism Action, smaller charities, community projects and youth groups. Please support.

Granard Visitor Centre Project

Parish Draw

You are invited to renew your membership of the Parish Draw; €100 full year; €50 half year; €25 quarter year. Prizes each month - €300; €200; €100; €50 – provided enough join. New members are also most welcome. Please give your membership to your collector. Thanks very much for your ongoing support of the Parish Draw. Citizens Information

An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service is available at Granard Area Action Group Office Main Street Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. No appointment necessary.


Our Auction will be held on Saturday 7 November at the Handball Sports Complex, Abbeylara. Viewing takes place from 11.00am. Auction begins at 1.00pm sharp. Contact Pat McHugh, 087 6308152; T. J. Donohoe, 086 8848736 or Fr. Michael, 043 6686270 to let us know of items you may have for the auction and for more details. All Proceeds are for our New Parish Centre, Abbeylara. Please support. Please bring your items to the Handball Centre on Friday, 6 November from 6.00pm onwards, except large items which can be brought on the morning of the auction. Please bring home any unsold items after the auction. Refreshments will be available during the day.


Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot waiting to be won is now €20,000 and if not won there is a second Jackpot this week for €3,200 in 49 numbers, a lot of shopping could be done with Christmas around the corner even if you never played bingo. Seats are limited so come along early to avoid the rush and enjoy the fun. IT COULD BE YOU!

The Draft Register of Electors 2016/2017 is now being prepared. If you live in County Longford and wish to vote you should check that you are registered correctly to vote. If you have any family members resident in County Longford who will be 18 years or over by 15 February 2016 they may also be registered to vote.
