Church Concert

Garda Siochana Male Voice Choir presents an evening of music in St Mary’s Church, Granard on Sunday, 15th November at 5pm. Tickets costs €10 and can be purchased in Granard Library, John Joe Pettit’s Shop and in the SVP shop. Raffle will take place on the night. Your support is appreciated. Proceeds to local St. Vincent de Paul.

Solemn Novena

The Novena continues each Wednesday at 7.30pm in St. Mary’s Church, Granard and everyone is encouraged and invited to take part.


Granard Badminton Club are holding a fundraising event in The Bay Horse on this Saturday, 14th November 2015. Valuable raffle prizes on the night. Your support will be appreciated.


Granard guild held their meeting on Thursday, 5th November speaker was Christine from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service who gave a very informative talk on all aspects of budget changes that may affect us in January. Federation meeting will be held in the Vintage Moydow on Tuesday, 24th November. The guild’s Winter outing will take place on Thursday, 26th November with evening meal at the Hilltop Restaurant, Longford and afterwards we’ll meet again at the Backstage Theatre. Those who wish to travel please confirm.


The Simon Community would like to thank most sincerely the kind generosity of the people of Granard at their recent church gate collection. A total of €510 was raised. Thanks also to the collectors who gave of their time.

Community Diary

A Community Diary for 2016 is now available at Granard Area Action Group Information Office Main Street Granard. Groups and Organisations are requested to log their events in good time so as to avoid clashing and duplicating of events.

Gun Club

Tickets are currently on sale for the Clubs annual Christmas draw. Valuable prizes. You support would be gratefully appreciated.

Give Blood

A  Partnership between the IBTS and the GAA to encourage GAA members and supporters to give blood at local GAA club level. Please GIVE BLOOD in St. Brigid’s Community Centre, Loch Gowna on Tuesday, 17th and Wednesday, 18th November 2015 from 4:30-8pm.

Country Markets

Granard Country Markets continue every Friday morning from 8.30am to 11.00 am in the Motte Project premises (opposite Kearney’s Garage). They are now taking orders for Christmas Cakes, Puddings Cards etc. They also have the usual supply of homemade bread and cakes, crafts, country eggs and firewood in stock and they look forward to meeting all their patrons and thank them for their loyal support.

Draft Register

The Draft Register of Electors 2016/2017 is now being prepared. If you live in County Longford and wish to vote you should check that you are registered correctly to vote. If you have any family members resident in County Longford who will be 18 years or over by 15th February 2016 they may also be registered to vote. Pitch & Putt

The Annual General Meeting of Granard Pitch and Putt Club will take place on Sunday 22 November at 6pm in St. Mary’s G.A.A. Club House. All members are invited to attend and new ones will be very welcome.


The St. Vincent de Paul Shop Main Street Granard opens each Monday morning from 10.00am to 1.00pm. Every Friday 10.00am to 5.00pm and Saturday from 11.00am to 5.00pm as well as the first Tuesday of each month. Come along and bag a bargain while supporting a very worthy local cause.

Table Quiz

Granard Area Action Group are holding their annual Table Quiz on Friday, 4 December in Fay’s Bar at 9pm. This is the group’s only public fundraiser for the year. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Benefit Dance

A Benefit dance for the family of the late Sean Mulligan, Ballinamuck will take place in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva on Monday, 16th November 2015. Music on the night by Night Fever, Mick Flavin, Noel Cassidy, Jimmy Hussey and Busy Fingers. Tickets cost €10 each - the committee will be out selling tickets over the next few weeks and your support will be very greatly appreciated for this very worthy cause. 

Citizens Information

An information officer from Citizens Information Outreach Service is in attendance at Granard Area Action Group Information Office each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. No appointment necessary.

AG Bingo

Bingo continues each Wednesday night at the Community Centre, Granard commencing at 8.45pm. Jackpot stands at €20,000 in 42 calls or less. The second Jackpot is €3,300 in 49 calls or less.

Siopa Lus na Greine

Our Siopa is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am – 5pm. Thank you for your continued support. We welcome your cast offs, bric –a – brac etc. these can be dropped into An Siopa. All proceeds from An Siopa go directly to the Centre to fund projects in the Community. If anyone has any old Cnoc Mhuire Jumpers please drop them into Lus na Gréine FRC or Siopa Lus na Gréine.


Longford Historical Society’s annual Publication - Teathbha edited by James MacNerney was launched in Longford Library. This book has many interesting articles on historical events in Co. Longford. Something of local interest is an article by Luke Baxter on the concert performed by the great tenor the late Count John McCormack in the Town Hall Granard in the early 1900’s. The book is available in Donoghue’s Hardware Store in Granard and is priced at €12. This book will make ideal Christmas presents for family and friends at home and away.

Fireside Tales

On Thursday, 26th November the launch of the latest edition of Fireside Tales by Jude Flynn will take place in Longford Library.
