Colmcille ploughing
On Sunday next August 18th all roads will lead to Colmcille as the annual ploughing and heritage day will be held on the lands of Eugene and Bernadette Reilly in Smear. Proceedings get underway with ploughing at 11-30am and there will be loy digging, a tractor display, an old time kitchen where boxty and butter making will be demonstrated as well as the usual entertainment for the children such as the bouncing castle and different games. There will be a dog show and also a hen show so come along and enjoy what promises to be a great family day out and hopefully the sun will shine on the side of Smear Hill for the whole day. Later on Sunday night the Queen of the Plough dance will be held in Murtagh’s with music by Cajun Country.
Engagement
Congratulations to Emma, daughter of Thomas and Marie McCauley, Lisratigan, Coolarty and Mark, son of Christopher and Elizabeth Bradley, Ballinakill, Moate, Co Westmeath who announced their engagement on Friday last to coincide with Emma’s birthday. We join with both families in wishing Mark and Emma the very best with their future plans.

Sympathy
Deepest and heartfelt sympathy is extended to Pauline McGaughran and her daughters Rachel, Robecca and Ciara and son Darragh, on the very untimely death of Benny which occurred on August 5th following an illness. We also offer sympathy to Benny’s mother, Mrs. Josie McGaughran and family and to Pauline’s parents, Richard and Mary Monahan and family, Muckerstaff, Coolarty at this very sad time. Benny was laid to rest in Mullahoran on Wednesday last. May he rest in peace.
Rainbows
Rainbows is a support group for children experiencing loss and trauma due to bereavement or separation and an open evening will be held on September 19th in Lus Na Greine, Granard to give parents/guardians an outline of what they can expect from the support programme which will be available in the centre very soon.
Talk
Martin Morris, County Archivist, will give an informative talk on North Longford Flying Column and the War of Independence, on Sunday 18th August at 4 pm in the Corlea Visitor Centre, Kenagh.
