Country Markets: Please note our Easter Market will be held on Holy Saturday 30 March from 10am to 12 noon. 
The market will also take place on Easter Sunday as part of the Granard Easter Festival. Happy Easter to all our customers.

Easter Festival: All roads lead to Granard for the Easter Festival on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st March. The festival kicks off on Saturday afternoon at 3pm with a gruelling 5K Run which starts at Kiernan Milling. Entry is €10 per adult and €5 for U16 participants. Prizes are as follows 1st - €200, 2nd - €100 and 3rd - €50. There will be a special prize of €50 for the first U16 competitor across the finish line. If you wish to participate call Patrick on 043 6687935. Later in the evening, the Novelty Tug-O-War will take place on Main Street. All businesses in the area are invited to enter a team of 7 people. The cost is €20 per team. If your business or organisation would like to enter a team please contact Barry on 087 7625698. On Sunday from 1pm onwards there will be lots of fabulous entertainment for children and adults including fire eating, stilt walking and unicyclist from Corvenieos Entertainment. The crowd are in for a very special treat with the appearance of the “Trialstar Team” - the very best of mototcycle arena trials specialists performing amazing feats of bravery. The parade is expected to pass through Main St. at 2pm. Many floats have entered, but there is still time to join up if you wish to do so call Patrick on 043 6687935. There will be an Artisan Food & Craft Fare boasting an array of home baking including cheese, meats, boxty, jams, apple pies, crepes and confectionary so all palettes will be catered for. After the parade- Shindig – formerly known as the Merchant Archers, will take to the stage followed by popular local group Paper Planes! As it is Easter Sunday there’ll be lots of Easter Eggs to give away! Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the fun! With such a variety of live entertainment there is something for everyone at the Easter Parade.

I.C.A.: The AGM of Granard I.C.A. Guild will take place on Thursday 4 April at 8.00pm in the Credit Union meeting room. All members are requested to attend. New members are always welcome. Easter greetings to guild members - their families and friends.

I.C.A. Federation News: Heartiest Congratulations to Margaret Sides Coolamber Guild who came third in the National Final of the “Short Story” Competition and also to Kenagh Guild who represented Longford Federation in the National Table Quiz and came fourth. Longford Federation are happy to sponsor a Longford entrant in the 2013 Rose of Tralee local competition. The criteria for the successful applicant is as follows: 1. She must be from Longford. 2.She must have a connection in ICA i.e. mother, granny, aunt, sister, great granny, godmother etc. 3. Aged between 18 yrs on 1st January and 27 yrs on 31 August 2013. Sporting Successes: Well done to Longford U-21 team who defeated Wexford in the Leinster semi final last week. They will now play a highly fancied Kildare in the final due to take place on Wednesday 3 April in Portlaoise. Best of luck to all especially local man – Darren Gallagher St. Mary’s. Congratulations to Cnoc Mhuire U-18 team who won the Leinster final in St. Loman’s Park Mullingar on Saturday 16 March. They defeated Ashbourne C.S. by 2.08 to 2.07. They will play Clonakilty C.S. in the All Ireland semi final on this Saturday 30 March in Cahsel Co. Tipperary. We wish success. Congratulations to Cnoc Mhuire U-16 Basketball team who won the All-Ireland final in Tallaght on Wednesday 20 March defeating Moyne Park Dublin on a score line of 45 to 36.

Handball Success: Congratulations to Paul Brady who won yet another All –Ireland title on Saturday last 16 March at Abbeylara Handball Centre. This is Paul’s 10th All- Ireland title and we wish him continued success.

Road Run / Walk: Ballymore Minor GAA club are holding a Road Walk / Run on Sunday 7 April 2013 commencing at 12 noon. Registration takes place from 10am to 11.30am. Refreshments served afterwards. Birthday Greetings: Happy Birthday to Mary Fay Rathcronan Granard who celebrated a special birthday together with her twin brother Tom on last Friday night in the Annebrook Hotel Mullingar. Music was by her neighbours Chuck and June. A great night’s entertainment was enjoyed by all her family neighbours and friends. Many happy returns Mary and Tom.

Recent Death: The death of Mary Reilly of Redmond’s Terrace Granard occurred at Cavan General Hospital on St. Patrick’s Day 17 March. Her family would like to thank Dr. Niall Donohoe and all the doctors and staff of Cavan Hospital who were extremely good to her during her illness also her friends and neighbours for their sympathy and support. Mary was a kind gentle and an absolute lady to everyone. May she eternally rest in peace.
