Active Retirement: Next meeting takes place on Thursday next at the usual time 11am. A Raffle for an Easter Egg and other prizes will take place. Tickets are on sale from members at €2 each or 3 for €5. New members welcome. We will be having a very interesting guest speaker on the day, not to be missed. Deposits for our trip to Youghal Co. Cork on 10 June are being taken at the moment, deposit secures a seat. There are only a few seats left as this promises to be a very enjoyable break with day trips to the Titanic Centre in Cobh, Jameson Distillery in Middleton, day trip to Cork City, Mount Melleray Abbey and Ardmore in Co. Waterford. Nightly Entertainment, including live music, bingo, cards and much more, there is also a three mile beach/strand for a lovely stroll or sunbathing if weather permits, long evenings it being the month of June. Chrism Mass: Will be celebrated on Thursday 28 March in St. Mary’s Church, Athlone at 11am by Bishop Colm O’Reilly. Our Bishop Colm kindly invites you to attend and celebrate the Chrism Mass.
Resurrection Garden: At Easter time a Resurrection Garden will be arranged in St. Mary’s Church Carra. Children are asked to please bring a flower or small plant, a small toy or a handmade picture to decorate this special space.
Granard County Markets: The winners of our free draw which was held on Friday 8 March were Jessica Walsh, Elizabeth Brady and Josephine Cullivan, so congratulations to all. Our Easter Market will be held on Holy Saturday March 30 from 10-00am to 12-00 noon and not on Good Friday. Patrons are asked to please note that this change of day and time is for the Easter Market only. Easter Cards, Cakes and Goodies are now available at the Market.

Fundraising Night: The Park House Hotel presents its 2nd Annual Fundraising Night in aid of M.W.B. Autism Support Group on Friday 5 April 2013. Dancing on the night to King of Country Music, Mick Flavin. There will also be Special Guests on the night and various spot prizes. Admission is €10. The doors open at 9 pm and dancing is from 10 pm to 1am.

Tidy Towns: Our next meeting takes place on Friday 5 April 8.30pm. We welcome Mel Fagan on board, Mel started with us some few weeks back under the TUS Scheme and already there are signs of his great interest in keeping the Village looking its best. With Easter around the corner why not all the locals getting together and lending a hand, new members are welcome. We are having our Spring Fundraiser on weekend of Sat/Sun 5 April with a cake sale after all masses, ladies and gents it is that time again to get on the aprons and bake something nice, tarts, sponge cakes, boxty, brown bread, fruit cakes and buns. Community Games: Hard luck to our u13 Basketball team who was knocked out on Tuesday night last. The team on the night was Reece Reilly, Diarmuid Brady, Thomas Kiernan Molloy, Cathal Gillian and Logan O Reilly. Our U11 mixed team are training away on Wednesday nights 7 till 8 in Fr. Cannon Kelly Hall. They will meet Legan in their 1st match. Thanks to Irene Lynch for giving her time to train both of these teams. Our U13 Futsal team were on Saturday last in Kenagh. The team on the day was Tomas Kiernan Molloy, Reece Reilly, Conor Fagan, Diarmuid Brady, Ciarion Scalon, Cathal Gillian, Mark McNerney and Connor Leonard. This is the 1st time we have entered this game and the 1st time these boys played. They came up against a very strong Edgeworthstown team and only lost 6 goals to 5 goals. Again thanks goes to Aiden Scalon for looking after the boys. Our U13 girls were playing in the final on Sunday evening and no results are known. Please check out our facebook page for updates as to what is happening in the Abbeylara/Mullinalaghta Community Games. We would like to see more kids get involved with the community games there is something for everyone within community games so please help get your child get involved. Thank you to all that gave at the church gate collection in Mullinalaghta on Saturday evening last, the other churches will hold theirs in the coming week.

The Granada Festival Granard: Great to see the Line up for the Marquee taking shape: Friday 5 July Jimmy Buckley and His Band proceeded by Chuck and June, Saturday 6 July Audiopilot, Sunday 7 July Festival Queen Selection followed by Gina Dale Haze and the Champions. It is hoped to have a display of Granada memorabilia during the weekend, so if anybody has any photos, programs, tickets, posters, plans, outfits etc., it would be minded and returned. Promises to be a great weekend of Music and Entertainment!
