Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in Murtagh’s Bar on Monday, 12th January 2015. The Jackpot was €7,750. Dinner Dance: The Club will hold their Dinner Dance on Saturday 14th February in the Breffni Arms Hotel and tickets are on sale from club officers. This should be a fantastic night of celebration with the presentation of the League and Championship medals and a presentation to newly- wed players. For all you old Romantics out there this is a great opportunity to treat your wife / partner for St Valentine’s Day xx lol. Make a note of the date and get your tickets early. Arva Ladies GAA Club held their Annual General Meeting on Sunday 18th January in the Breffni Arms Hotel where they reflected on a very positive year with teams contesting two finals and four semi finals - already hopes are high for at least two trophies in 2015. Coming on board this year is Lorraine O’Hara who will be training the under 12 girls. Plans are also at a very advanced stage to enter a Senior Ladies team in forthcoming competitions. Several former members have returned to play and with some of the minors joining them, a senior team is close to a reality. Membership for players is set at 40euro and also an affiliation membership for parents and non players at 10euro. The committee was returned for another term. They are Ian Scott - chairperson, secretary Lesley Harrison, treasurer Josephine Gormley, Pro, cultural and child protection officer Lionel Mullally. Also joining the committee in non officer role are Michelle Corcoran and Caroline Lee. A date is being arranged for registration and that will be communicated to allowing time. Thanks to Eamonn and Philomena Gray for the use of the function room and refreshments after. U 21: The St Joseph’s U-21team were in action in the Bank of Ireland Paddy Mc Larnon U 21 Ulster Championship which is organised by Kickhams Creggan GAC, Belfast on Sunday last against Cullyhanna, Co Armagh and emerged victorious on a score of 3-7 to 2-9 following a though hour’s football. Cullyhanna wee first off the mark with a point but Ryan Connolly sent in a speculative shot which ended up in the net in the 4th minute. He followed up with points in the 6th / 10th minutes while Kevin Bouchier hit 2 points in the 14th minute. Conal Sheridan ha a great shot for goal blocked out for a “45” which Connolly converted. The side were level at the interval 1-5 each. Cullyhanna had 2 points on the restart but Conal Sheridan pulled on a loose ball and shot to the net in the 4th minute. He added a point a minute later while Ryan Connolly pointed from a free. With a point separating the sides in the 28th minute Jonathan Mc Cabe was hauled down in the square and sent to the net from the resultant penalty and that seemed to be the result. But Cullyhanna went straight down from the kick out and sent to the net to leave a point in it again. But that was the last score and St Josephs ran out worthy winners. Cavan U 21 team played Roscommon in the Hastings Cup in Drumlane on Saturday last where they were again defeated. Cavan had 11 changes to the team that started the previous week as the \management team try to give all the players a game and a chance to stake a claim for a place in the Ulster Championship. Cavan Seniors: In the Dr Mc Kenna Cup Cavan Monaghan as visitors to Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday last where they won by a goal after a tough encounter. Cavan played their best football in the first half but Monaghan came back strongly in the second half and in the end just a goal separated the sides 1-13 to 0-13. They now meet Fermanagh on tonight Wednesday in Kingspan Breffni Park at 8.00 pm in the semi final. Let’s get out and support the team tonight.

Grandparents Day

St Mary’s National School, Arva, will celebrate Grandparents Day on Wednesday 28th January 2015 as part of Catholic School Week.  All grandparents in the community are invited to a special Prayer Service in the school at 12.00 pm with light refreshments after.  All welcome. 


The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association annual Church Gate collection was held last weekend –and in Arva amounted to €367-01. Your generous support is much appreciated.


Free Spirit Yoga group taking place each Thursday evening at 9pm and Saturday morning at 11am in the Memorial Hall, Arva. We welcome everyone from beginners to the advanced.

Line Dancing

The Breffni Kickers Line Dancing Classes will resume this Thursday night 15th January in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva. So get those dancing shoes ready for nights of fun and craic in a friendly atmosphere.

St Patrick’s Day Parade

This St Patrick’s Day Arva celebrate the 10th Anniversary of its St Patrick’s Day Parade.  The Parade Committee are holding a meeting on Monday 2nd February at 9pm in the Breffni Arms Hotel. This meeting hopes to have input from all the community, the publicans, the local schools and community schools and all the local organisations including the G.A.A.  Everyone is invited to the meeting to discuss ways to celebrate the Parade which has been a huge success and brought the “WOW” factor to Arva on St Patrick’s Day.
