Grand National Sweep Draw
Many thanks to all who helped with the Grand National Sweep draw which was held recently in aid of underage gaa development in both the parishes of Ballymahon and Forgney. All who sold tickets, bought tickets and helped selling tickets on the previous two Saturdays, it was a great success. 1st prize €150 was won by Philip Maloney, 2nd prize €100 was won by Mike Cooney, 3rd prize €100 went to Kevin Diffley and 4th prize of €50 was won by Herbert Farrell. Well done to all.
Church of Ireland Ardagh Group of Parishes
During Holy Week and Easter, the following Services will be held to which all are welcome to attend. 18th April in Kenagh Church, Special Service for Good Friday at 11.30a.m. 19th April, Easter Evening: Holy Communion in Ballymahon 7p.m. Holy Communion in Kenagh 9p.m. 20th April: Easter Day: Holy Communion in Ardagh 10a.m. and in Tashinney at 11.30a.m. Easter Holy Communions to those who are unable to get to Church because of age or illness will be administered during Holy Week.
Enrolment Week at Forgney National School for the 2014-2015 year will take place on the week Monday, 28th April to Friday, 2nd May 2014. Parents/Guardians please call to the school anytime during that week.

Please note that all scheduled Rural Transport – Friday Services, throughout the County, will run on Holy Thursday 17th April, instead of Good Friday with the same collection and departure times. Bus to Knock

Over the Easter, Services at Forgney Catholic Church will be held on Holy Thursday at 6.30p.m. and on Good Friday at 6.30p.m. A reminder also that Cemetery Sunday at Cloncallow will be held on Sunday 22nd June at 5.00pm. and at Forgney Cemetery on the same day at 7p.m.
Annual Cakesale in aid of Shrule Cemetery Maintenance will take place in the Bridgeways Centre, on Good Friday, immediately after the Ceremonies. Large selection of jams, healthbreads, cakes, deserts etc. Light refreshments will be served. Your support as in previous years will be much appreciated.
Tashinney National School
Enroling is now taking place for September 2014. Parents who wish to enrol their child/children may call in to the school or contact the school on 04493-57610.
A fundraiser for the upkeep of Cloncallow Cemetery will be held in Skelly’s Lounge on Sunday, 4th May. Tickets are on sale at €5 each from committee members. There will be music and craic on the night. Your support will be appreciated.
Ballymahon Clothing Factory Re-union
A re-union of everyone who worked in Ballymahon Clothing Factory, Claffeys, Dubtex, Balman, Manford and Manford Direct is being held at the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on Friday 25th April. The event will commence at 9p.m. Donation buckets will be at the door and any proceeds received on the night will be donated to local Charities. All are welcome to join in the fun, past employees of these factories, together with their partners, families and friends. Music is to be provided by the Ramblers and lots of other artists with a disco later in the night with DJ Michael Rooney. A great chance for you to renew old friends and colleagues.
Congratulations to Frances Kelleher and her daughter Orla, Terlicken whose Art Exhibition “Solas ‘s Saol” was officially opened recently by Fergus Kennedy from The County Art exhibits will be on show for the next few weeks. Everyone welcome. Art classes are being held by Frances at the Sisters of Mercy house on Main Street every Wednesday evening from 7 – 9pm. Following their Easter break, the group will resume on Wednesday 30th April, newcomers are more than welcome to join.

Holy Week ceremonies
Holy Thursday:- 8.00p.m. Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper. During this Mass, Special Ministers of the Eucharist in the Parish will renew their commitment to this ministry. After the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be brought to the Altar of Repose. You are invited to spend some time in quiet reflection there until 10p.m. when the Night Prayer of the Church will be recited. Please bring your Trocaire boxes to this Mass. Do not leave it in to the Church during the day, it may be stolen. Proceeds from the Offertory collection at this Mass also will be donated to Trocaire. Good Friday: 3p.m. Celebration of the Lord’s Passion. 8p.m. Prayer around the Cross (Taize). Some volunteers are needed to read the Scripture quotations during this time of quiet prayer. Holy Saturday: 9p.m. The Easter Vigil. The Paschal Candle will be blessed and lit outside the main door of the church will the help of the local Scout troop, you are invited to gather around the Easter fire and join in the procession into the church. Easter Holy Water will be blessed at the Easter Vigil for every home. Easter Sunday: Masses at 9a.m. and 11.30a.m.
Easter Monday: 21st April: Polish Mass at 1p.m. Bishop Francis Duffy will be the principal celebrant of this Mass. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Easter Tuesday: 22nd April – No Mass.
Are taking a break from rehearsals and will resume in Skelly’s on Thursday 1st May for four weeks before the Summer break.
Hard luck to Ballymahon senior football team who were beaten by Longford Slashers in the Division 1 League played in Carrickedmond on Saturday evening last.
“Uncle Ben” visits
Two representatives from “Uncle Ben’s” visited Forgney National School on Friday morning last to present a cheque for €10,000 to the school as a result of two of their students winning a children & parents cookery competition some months ago. The competition which was judged by the infamous Chef, Neven Maguire was won by sisters Shauna and Jamie Gilbride, daughters of Patricia and Sean, Cloncallow and grandchildren of Johnney and Marian Maye, Cloncallow, congratulations to you all. Well done to the Board of Management, staff and parents who had lots of lovely refreshments ready for everyone on Friday morning.

NewC Music Fest with camping will take place in the surrounds of Newcastle House Hotel, Ballymahon on June 7-8 with several exciting Acts due to take to the stage. Ryan Sheridan will be their headliner, also Ham Sandwich, Big September, Keywest , Tupelo, White Chalk among others. Camping will be available at the limited capacity Festival from the evening of Friday 6th June to Sunday 8th June with a DJ tent to entertain revellers from Friday. The event is strictly over 18’s. Tickets are €34.95 for students and €39.95 for adults and are on sale from www.tickets.ie
