KDDA: Kenagh and district development association wish to thank all those who supported their scrap Saturday collection. It was a very successful project and so far has brought in 850 euro with more to come. The idea of scrap Saturday is a very worthwhile venture as it helps to get rid of any unwanted scrap lying around and also gets rid of unsightly objects and brings in very welcome funding for KDDA. Don’t forget clean up every Wednesday evening from 7.30pm over the Summer months.

PROJECT LAUNCH: A Kenagh enhancement plan will be presented at a special meeting in Saint Dominics Centre on Friday evening at 8.30pm,a group of dedicated local residents have been working on the plan over the past six months. This is a very comprehensive plan and it should be of benefit to Kenagh and surrounding areas over the coming months. All are welcome to this event.

PRESS NIGHT: a very important gathering of the Wetlands Heritage of Ireland will take place in Corlea Centre on Friday evening May 18 at seven thirty. The committee will be having their press night on that date and all interested are invited to attend. This press night is being held to spread the word about the forthcoming Barry Rafferty conference which will take place in the library Ballymahon and Corlea centre. Full particulars later. Please note time of seven thirty which should give enough time for the launch of Kenagh enhancement plan later in the evening. Both committees look forward to a good attendance.

ICA: Kenagh guild of ICA will be holding their annual general meeting in Saint Dominics Community Centre on Monday May 14th at 8pm. All members please attend and hopefully new members will take the opportunity to join on the occasion of the AGM.

KILCOMMICK CEMETERY: Committee members and plot owners are asked to come to Kilcommock cemetery on next Saturday May 12th at 2pm to continue with maintenance of plots. Also to discuss future plans and share ideas. All plot owners please take note of time.

LUCKY WINNER: We send good wishes and the best of luck to Mary McDonnell ”Deerpark” Kenagh whose name was drawn for the “Spin the wheel” programme last Saturday night. We look forward to her on RTE next Saturday night when hopefully she will take home a very large cheque signed by the national lottery. However big or small there should be a celebration in Deerpark after her return from Dublin later on Saturday night. All eyes from Kenagh and surrounding areas will be watching an event which could change the rest of her life. Good luck.

DEATH: We were all very saddened with the new of the death of Paddy Rooney Abbeyderg which occurred last Saturday May 5th. Paddy was in his ninety second year and had been in good health until his advancing years began to catch up with him. Paddy was a very jovial man who enjoyed good company and the craic. He was a very hard working man before his retirement from Bord na Mona over twenty five years ago. Even after his retirement he continued to lead an active life with a great interest in things of an agricultural nature. He was predeceased by his wife Julie. We offer sincere sympathy to his step daughters of the York family also his brother Tom and sister Dolly Marlowe Nephews nieces and many friends. His funeral will take place on Tuesday May 8th from St Josephs Hospital Longford to Carrickedmond for 11 o’clock mass with burial after in Shrule cemetery. May he rest in peace.
