Please note: As of this week I will be taking over the Dromard notes from Willie Healy for a trial period. Therefore the Colmcille and Dromard notes will be combined into the North Longford Notes as was in the past. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Willie Healy for his dedication to providing highly informative and interesting notes for the area over the last number of years and to wish him the best as he takes a well deserved break. I hope to be able to do justice to his work in my own notes. Anyone wishing to have notes included in next week’s segment should send them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me at 0879254868. The deadline for submission is 6pm at the latest on Sunday evenings. Your co-operation in this will be greatly appreciated. Please note that the order in which pieces appear in the paper will correspond to the order in which I receive them throughout the week. I look forward to working with the entire community.

The results of the day: 1st place was Johnny Reilly, category prize winners were Barry Kennedy and Padraic Mc Entee. Nearest the pin Andrew Mc Gahern. We were invited by the Greville Arms Golf Society Granard to take part in their annual Tom Walsh Memorial Trophy on the 4th May in Longford Golf club. Our golf society member Michael Walsh is a brother of the late Tom so it was befitting that we should take part and turn out in numbers. What a day it turned out to be, forty four golfers took part, the course was in super condition especially the greens and the weather was near to perfect. This resulted in high stableford scores with three players in the forty points range and fifteen players in the thirty points range. Our golf society were winners of the first competitive outing between the two societies with a difference of only seven points after the best ten cards from each society were counted. Congratulations to our members on wining the trophy, for turning out in great numbers and to our captain John on his speech. Many thanks to the Greville Arms Golf Society for their invitation to take part and for the prizes they sponsored, it was a great tribute to Tom Walsh on your behalf. We look forward to next year and hope to retain the trophy. Our next outing is on the 15th June, venue: Carrick On Shannon Golf Club: Tee off at 10am, please be there for 9.30am.
