Tidy Towns

By now, the adjudicators will have been to the village, usually between the 3rd and 4th week of June. This year an enormous effort has been made by the many stewards of business, private and community buildings around the village to facelift and paint them- This village never looked as good as it does now - win, lose or draw it is a credit to all who worked so hard to bring our village to this level. The Mill - We have had to erect ‘Keep Out’ signs at the Mill - this was to be the jewel for this year’s Tidy Town’s competition but because of the large population of young boys and girls to a lesser extent, who were using the area as a place to hang out and also doing untold harm to the stone work and the bank of the river on both sides we had no choice but to close it for safety reasons. It is very regrettable that these youngsters have no Foróige Club or even Scouts Den where they could engage in activities where their youthful energies could be harnessed and put to use in positive and creative ways. This is a huge need in Drumlish! Pride of Place judging has been pushed back till the 7/8th September (actual date to be confirmed).

National Heritage Week: Drumlish Heritage & History are holding an event at the Mill on Tuesday evening the  25th August and Longford Historical Society are hosting a public lecture on Bishop William O’Higgins who laid the foundation stone for St. Mel’s Cathedral on Thursday 15th October next.
