A big thank you to all who supported the Aughnacliffe church gate collection last Sunday. It was in aid of the Children of Chernobyl, and a group of children are currently over. The total raised on the day was €144.07. It is much appreciated. Once again, thank you.


Clonfin Commemoration committee are holding a 5km walk/run on Sunday August 2nd next, starting at McElvaney’s of Coolarty at 6pm. Registration will be from 5-00pm and when the walk is complete there will be a BBQ in McElvaney’s followed by an evening of Irish music song and dance. Registration is ten euro per adult and five euro for children and all proceeds will go towards the Clonfin project which is ongoing at the present time. The committee will greatly appreciate your support.

Open evening

St Thomas’s Church, Columbkille will host an open evening on Saturday, 25th July from 7pm onwards when everyone is invited to come along and view the restoration work in progress in the Church, including new windows being installed and the back wall re-plastered. Refreshments will be served. There is no charge but voluntary donations towards the restoration work will be welcome


Colmcille ploughing association are holding their annual ploughing and field day on Sunday, 30th August on the lands of the Bleakley family, Smear in conjunction with the normal ploughing and side shows, their will be an open day in Bleakley’s Mill where people can witness for themselves how the mill worked and gain a piece of history from days gone bye. It promises to be a great family fun day for everyone

Brian Boru

The Brian Boru fun weekend will be held on the weekend of 14th 15th and 16th of August. More information will be published later. So keep the date in mind.


St Michael’s Church, Potahee, Co Cavan was the setting for the wedding celebration of Fiona Crowe, Corlismore, Ballinagh and Declan Reilly, son of Eugene and Bernadette, Smear, Aughnacliffe on Saturday, 11th July. The celebrant was Fr Sean McDermott and Fiona was attended by Bridesmaids Emma Mullen, Philomena Connolly, Nicola Crowe and Julie Ann McKiernan, Groomsmen were Declan’s brothers Eugene, Brendan and JP and Colin Kiernan. Flower girls were Sophie Connolly and Sarah Cadam, Page boy was John Crowe. Crover House Hotel on banks of Lough Sheelin was the venue for the wedding reception. We wish Fiona and Declan a long life of health and happiness.

Golf Outing

The Hit & Miss Golf Society next outing is on Saturday, 25th July. Tee-time 2pm. Please be in the clubhouse for 1.30pm. New members are always welcome.


Colmcille Ploughing meeting this Thursday in Dolan’s pub at 10pm. Everyone please attend.
