Abbeyshrule Gathering Fly-Inn
Next weekend the 24th and 25th August the Abbeyshrule Gathering Fly-Inn will take place in the village’s aviation links. During the weekend there will be a coarse fishing competition which is open to everyone and will commence at the new bridge on the way into the airfield at 9:30am. There will be a village tour and fly-in awards. The highlight on Sunday will be the aviation sports day featuring displays by European Aerobatic champion pilot local man David Bruton, an Irish Coast Guard helicopter, and a jump by the Tandem Sky diving team. Other attractions include a demonstration by a customs sniffer dog, model aircrafts, hot air balloons and lots of other family events. Admission to the event is €10 per adult with children and parking is free. Hopefully the weather will be good over the weekend and we hope for a safe the enjoyable Gathering Fly-In weekend in Abbeyshrule.
To all the local boys and girls who received their leaving cert results last week. According to reports all were very happy with their results. We wish all well and good luck as they now take the next step with their education study’s into third level education.
Collection The St Josephs Young Priests Society annual church gate collection will be taken up at all masses in the parish next weekend Saturday and Sunday the 24th and 25th August. Please support.
The Carrickedmond GAA club are holding a fundraising draw which will take place in the Rustic-Inn Abbeyshrule on Friday night the 6th September. There are numerous prizes on offer including two All Ireland Hurling and two All Ireland football tickets. Tickets cost only €5 each and can be had from any player or committee member. For further details contact club secretary Maraide McDonnell or any club member.
Classic Motor Cycle Run
The Abbeyshrule classic motor cycle run will take place on Sunday 1st September commencing in Abbeyshrule village at 12 noon. All 50’s, 70’s, 90’s classic bikes and vintage bikes are welcome. The run will be approximately seventy miles. Entry per bike is €20 and all proceeds will go towards the Carrickedmond/Abbeyshrule Defibrillator group.
Pilgrimage to Knock
Will take place on Sunday 1st September. A bus will travel to Knock on this date and will cost €16 per person. To book tickets please contact Fr Tiernan as soon as possible. The bus will leave Abbeyshrule at 09:40am and Carrickedmond at 9:50am.
The newly formed Carrickedmond folk group practices continue every Tuesday evening in Carrickedmond church from 8pm to 9pm. Anyone who can play a musical instrument or who is interested in signing is welcome to come along. The first folk mass will take place in September and once a month there after.
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs May Leavy, Lislum, who passed away recently. May was a very quiet and respected lady and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. To her daughters, Maureen, Kathleen and Martha, other relatives and friends, we extend our sincere sympathy. Sympathy is also extended to Marie Carberry and family, formerly Carrickboy, on the recent death of her mother, Mrs Ellen Murray, Terlicken, Ballymahon and to Ellen’s sister, Margaret Murray, Abbeyderg. May she rest in peace.
Wedding Bells: Congratulations to Cathroina Mitchell, Abbeyshrule and David Kearney who celebrated their wedding recently. The lovely wedding ceremony which was attended by the couples family and friends took place in Ardagh church and the reception took place in the Rustic-Inn, Abbeyshrule. We wish the newlywed couple many happy years of married life together in their new home in Keel.
GAA Well done to the Carrickedmond Intermediate team who recorded a great win over Ballymore in the championship on Sunday evening last. As a result of this win the team have now qualified for the semi-final of the championship.
