Cemetery committee

As mentioned before, a small committee to deal with the upkeep of Coolamber Cemetery has been formed on the recommendation of Longford County Council. It is hoped to organise a maintenance plan to take care of the Cemetery in the future and there will be an open working day on Saturday, March, 21st and Fr. Joe asks all those with any connection to the Cemetery to hep tidy up and to see what other little projects might be feasible. Thanks to those who waited back after Mass last weekend and are willing to help out with the upkeep of Coolamber.  Please remember Saturday, March 21st and tell your family members and friends.

Rural arts

Our local Rural Arts Group had a meeting on Wednesday night of last week, but sadly there was a very small attendance. Our next meeting will take place in Murtagh’s Pub, Ballynacargy on Thursday, 26th February at 8.30p.m. It is hoped to have a good attendance so that we may get some new ideas for the coming months. Our photography was a great success as were our Art Classes etc. so please let us have any suggestions you may have.  All ideas will be considered.

Now at the beginning of the year membership fees are due to help pay insurances etc. for the various organisations. For Boherquill Ramblers membership for 2015 is only €20 per adult, €30 per family and children under 16 years of age no fee. We must pay our insurances for the year in advance so we depend on memberships. Also lighting bills, etc., are due for the walkway so please at least try to purchase a €2 lotto envelope or three in the same draw €5. This is a tough time for all voluntary groups so your support will be of great benefit. New members always welcome.

All matters for inclusion in these weekly notes must be received by Friday night at the latest and are welcome to 086 2596656 or

Streete Bowls Club were very active during the past week. On Tuesday last the A team had a very comprehensive win over Tyrrellspass A at the Streete complex but on the same night Streete C lost narrowly to Ardagh B. On Wednesday Streete B travelled to Ballymore but failed to make an impression on their superior opponents. Next week Streete C will play Castlepollard at the Streete complex and the winners will be Division 2 champions. Both teams are on equal points at the moment. This promises to be a very exciting match. Streete A and Tyrrellspass B, the Division one winners also play on the same night. On Sunday next Streete club, in association with Westmeath Bowls, host the county finals. We hope to have a good entry in this competition and a great days bowling. New members and visiting bowlers are welcome at the club any Tuesday night.

Best wishes to Peter Burke M.C.C. and Olivia Doolan whose wedding took place in Multyfarnham last week followed by a reception in Bloomfield House Hotel, Mullingar. We wish them many happy and healthy years ahead.
