Sunday last was the first Sunday of Advent, a time of preparation for the birth of Our Saviour at Christmas. It is also a time of reflection as we recall that our time in this world is passing away and that we are waiting for the final coming of Christ at the end of time. Advent wreaths which are symbolic of this time were blessed before weekend Masses.

In The News

The parish has been in the national media in recent weeks due to the achievements of several of our young men. Paul Sheridan, Loughdavin who now resides in Donegal was recently honoured with a Nicky Rackard All Star award for his contribution to Donegal in the competition. The talented Paul, who was the back-bone of the local St. Joseph’s hurling team and the county Senior team before his transfer to Aodh Ruadh in Ballyshannon where he’s now based, won a Nicky Rackard Cup in 2013 with his adopted county and had followed it up with some outstanding performances for the Tir Chonaill men at centre-field this past season. In 2011 he helped Donegal to a Lory Meagher Cup success. Then last week Paul Brady, Drumcorr, World handball champion in a wide ranging interview with the Daily News has put the spotlight firmly on the football tradition in the parish and highlighted all that is good about its people and their support for him in his glorious handball career. Lastly, Mark Reilly, Drumcorr is one of 24 national finalists in this year’s Best Young Entrepreneur competition with his innovative Complete Receipt Company and we wish him the best of luck in the competition later in the week. Well done to all three who are excellent role models for youth of the parish.
