We extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs Shaneii McKenna, Kiltycreevagh, Ballinamuck, on the death of her husband, Terry which occurred on Thursday, 5th December. Also sympathy to his son, Glenn, sister Ellie, daughter in law Anne and grandchildren. Terry was well known in the area with the farm community as he worked for the Dept of Agriculture. Following funeral mass in St Patrick’s Church, Ballinamuck, burial took place in Ballinamuck new cemetery. May he rest in peace.


Congratulations to James McDowell, Mullinalaghta and Amanda O’Hara, Cloonaugh, Drumlish who announced their engagement recently. We wish them health and happiness for the future.

Granard SVDP shop now open on Fridays 10am – 5pm Saturdays 11am – 5pm and first Tuesday of every month from 10am – 5pm.

Credit Union

Credit Union Sub office open for business on Saturday evening 6pm – 7.30pm and on Saturday 29th December from 6pm – 7.30pm. Christmas draw for members will take place this Saturday evening.

Christmas Church services

Church of Holy Family Loch Gowna Christmas Eve Mass at 8pm. Christmas Day Mass at 11am. Church of Ireland Service on Christmas Day 11.30am, Mullinalaghta Mass on Christmas Eve at 6pm. Fr PJ Fitzpatrick and Rev Hazel Hicks wish all parishioners a happy and peaceful Christmas.

Get well wishes

Sincere get well wishes are extended to anyone from the lakeside area who is presently in hospital or recovering at home following a stay in hospital. We wish you all a speedy recovery to good health and a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Rural Transport

Longford Community Resources Ltd (LCRL) manage and administer the Rural Transport Programme, which covers the rural regions of county Longford. Many thanks to all the passengers and stakeholders who have supported and indeed campaigned for the continuation of the programme throughout the year. All routes for 2013 will be completed by Tuesday the 31st December. Services for 2014 will resume on Thursday 2nd January. Longford Community Resources would like to wish all passengers and everyone who supports the rural transport programme “a very happy and peaceful Christmas and good wishes for the new year”.

Loch Gowna Post Office Christmas arrangements. The post office will close on Saturday 21st December at 5.30pm. Closed on Sunday 22nd Monday normal business hours 9- 5.30pm Tuesday open 9-5pm, closed Wednesday 25th Thursday 26th and Friday 27th. Open Saturday 28th normal business hours 9-1pm. The last posting dates for Christmas Europe and Great Britain letters 19th December, Ireland 20th December. We wish all our customers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Fishing competition

Loch Gowna and Upper Erne Anglers will host open Christmas pike fishing competition (boat) on Friday 27th December. Fishing from 11am to 4pm on Derries Lake. Further info contact Ciaran Lee 086 8579156.
