Longford native in Collins lecture

A County Longford native delivered a paper at Dublin’s National Library earlier this week on political violence and the role played by War of Independence icon Michael Collins.

A County Longford native delivered a paper at Dublin’s National Library earlier this week on political violence and the role played by War of Independence icon Michael Collins.

Abbeylara born Professor Conor Gearty, told onlookers of how history should remember the late revolutionary leader not as a terrorist, but rather as a civil warrior and freedom fighter.

Mr Gearty, who is Professor of Human Rights Law at the London School of Economics (LSE), is also a grandnephew of Collins’ girlfriend and Granard woman Kitty Kiernan.
