Daniel Hayden, Anna Hayden, Ciaran Shannon, Claragh Shannon, Cathal Farrell, Laura Farrell, Cian McPhillips, Sarah McPhillips, Melissa O’Kane and Brendan Finnan all took to the starting line. Many of these children are only turning 8 years old and they gave a great effort in an U12 race! Thanks to Paddy McPhillips who has given his time and enthusiasm for many weeks training the runners in cold and wet conditions. Ardagh/Moydow/Glen won 4 medals on the day so Congratulations to 1st place Cian McPhillips, 4th place Brendan Finnan and 5th place Cathal Farrell who will all be part of the boys U12 mixed distance relay team for Co. Longford that will go on to the National Finals in AIT in May. Melissa O’Kane secured 6th place in the girls race and she will also go to the National Finals as part of the U12 girls relay team. These are our first athletes to qualify for Nationals so far this year so we are very proud of you all.
U10 Handwriting Results: Thanks to all the children who took part in the U10 Handwriting competition held last week. You all made it a very hard job for our judge, Miss Claire Flood, to choose as every entry was such lovely work. Several children were sick and therefore unable to enter on the day so we missed you and hope you all will try another event. Girls:1st-Saoirse McLoughlin, 2nd-Melissa O’Kane, 3rd-Katie Halpin. Boys:1st-Cathal Farrell, 2nd-Jack Mulleady, 3rd-Cian Farrell. Saoirse and Cathal will both go forward to the County Handwriting Final later this month so we wish them the best of luck in the next round.
U10 Girls Indoor Soccer: Last month our U10 girls team won gold medals in the County Community Games Indoor Soccer competition. They have been busy practicing every Sunday and will play their Leinster match this weekend vs Meath. Caitriona Hayden, Noelle Gillen and Laura McPhillips have put in a great effort training the girls so we wish good luck to all involved. It is a fantastic achievement to win a County title and progress on to Leinster so we acknowledge how great all you girls are!
Tag Rugby: The children were so enthusiastic about tag rugby that Ardagh/Moydow/Glen entered 3 teams in the County competition that was held on Feb 17th in Ballymahon. As we had 30 children on the day we fielded 2 teams for U11 and 1 team for U14. We met very tough competitors in every match so we ended the day without any victories but still a lot of fun. David Shannon, Michael Hayden and Eamon O’Kane deserve a round of applause for all the organisation and effort they put in with texting all parents, training and blitzes for many weeks. Last year we were able to get all the equipment needed to play tag rugby so it was wonderful to see it all being used and enjoyed by such a great turnout of children. Even though the competition is over there is still training for all children who want to enjoy the fun game of tag rugby. Contact David Shannon or Eamon O’Kane if you need more details.
U14 Table Quiz: 3 teams will take part in the annual County Longford Community Games Table Quiz that will be held next week. This is always an enjoyable night so we know that all the children who are involved will have a great time.
