Amenity Group: A canal festival fun day and midsummer boat rally will be held at Brannigan harbour on Sunday June 26th 2011 with the arrival of the boat rally at 2pm. Here will be live music face painting Bozo the clown, a bouncing castle junior fishing competition, Aqua spheres and a Kayak display also the release of ducks by Ballymahon gun club. Many thanks from the organisers to Waterways Ireland, the Canal Walkers group and the people of Ballymahon and surrounds for their sponsorship over the years. They ask you to please join them on the day. Lets hope the weather will stay dry for the occasion.

Community Group: During the week Ballymahon community group had a visit from their senior development officer Terri Clarke and her colleagues. Terri visited each project in the area and was very impressed with the whole area. The community group would like to thank each and every person involved in the project. To the Supervisor Michael Greally to the manager of the playschool Amanda McGrath and to all the workers for their dedication and hard work over the last few years. Thanks to all again, keep up the good work.

CLUB 91: The members have had a busy time recently, they had a two nigh break to Cork, stopping off at the lovely town of Adare for refreshments. They would like to hank Mai Reilly for her hard work in organising the trip and also their bus driver Bernie. They also celebrated the close of the Bealtaine festival in the Longford Arms hotel. Again thanks to the Garda Siochana, Longfod library LCRL who sponsored the event and looked after everyone so well. Thank you also to the musicians Brendan Seamus and Mr Hughes , a great time was had by all. The club members day out will take place next week and will take in Farmleigh House , Stephens Green and a little shopping. Their get togethers continue each Wednesday night from 8 to 10pm in the Bridgeways Centre. New members welcome.

Corpus Christi: The annual Corpus Christi procession will be held on Sunday next 26th June the feas of the body of and blood of Christ. It will follow the usual route commencing from St Matthews Church at 7pm. As usual volunteers will be needed to carry the canopy and banners.

Resource Centre: Congratulations from everyone at the Day Care Centre to member Eileen Conncannon on receiving her diploma in Womens Studies from UCD, they are all very proud of you Eileen as we all are, well done indeed. A big well done to all involved in the film “His & Hers” especially the centre’s members Aggie Natton, Mary Hanrahan and Bridie Mulleady, it was very special.The convent house will be having their annual trip to Bantry in Cork this year, please contact Eimear for details. Their gym is also now opened please go along and have a look everyone welcome and lastly names and referrals are now being taken for September, anyone who wishes to join please pop in to see everyone. Eucharistic Congress: In preparation for the international Eucharistic Congress to be held in Dublin next year a national Eucharistic Congress will be held in Knock on Saturday 25th June 2011. It is expected that every parish in Ireland will be represented. During the day there will be four workshops which may be attended. These will be held in marquees directly behind the basilica. There are only 2900 places available for each of them so advance registration is needed. Those who are interested are invited to register online @

Prayer Group: A branch of the Legion of Mary has been formed in Ballymahon. The group meet every Thursday evening at 7.30pm in the Sacristy of St Mathews Church under the spiritual direction of Fr Padraig McGowan. You are most welcome to become a member or attend one of our meetings. Currently members of the Legion of Mary are doing house- to -house visitations in the parish and hopefully they will be well received. Parish Clustering: It was decided at a meeting recently by priests from the Diocese regarding the clustering of parishes,that each of the parishes involved should organise a survey of opinion to see that in the event that it became necessary to reduce the number of Masses in the cluster which mass should be dropped. As a result of this decision voting papers were distributed at the weekend Masses at the weekend which people should complete and bring back to mass next weekend. Your cooperation will be much appreciated.

Walking Club: If you would like to join the walking group in the area please join them at Ballymahon mart on the mostrim road each wednesday evening at 8pm. Everyone welcome.

Fianna Fail: Forgney Fianna Fail Cumann wish to thank everyone who contributed so generously to their church gate collection recently. You continued support is greatly appreciated.

CLYS: The organisation is running a summer camp in Ballymahon during the week of July 4th – July 8h. The camp is open to all your people aged 10 – 18 and costs 10 euro per child per week. For further information regarding the camp , please contact Couny Longford Youth Service on (043) 3340907.

Tidy Towns: There was a large turnout of members at the annual general meeting of the Ballymahon Tidy Towns Taskforce in Cooneys Hotel on 16th May 2011. The chairman PJ Walsh thanked everybody for the support and help provided over the last year and outlined the plans and ambitions of the group for the coming year. A presentation was made to Bridget Devine of Longford Couny Council in appreciation of the work and support Bridget and the County Council have given over the years. The chairman also thanked the newly formed Traders Association for providing hanging baskets throughout the town and for their litter clean up every Sunday morning. Committee elected chairperson PJ Walsh; vice chairperson Geraldine Duncan; Secretary Marian Higgins; Assistant secretary Marie Magee; Treasurer Michael Greally; PRO Gary Molloy. Resource Centre: Ballymahon & District Credit Union Limited is holding a raffle on Saturday 9 July 2011 and the proceeds are being donated to the Convent House Day Care & Resource Centre. There are 30 prizes including a midweek break for 2 in the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney, food & fruit hampers, wine, vouchers, Sunday lunch for 2 and many other prizes which have been sponsored by local businesses. Tickets cost ?3 and are on sale in the Credit Union and the Convent House Day Care & Resource Centre.
