First Holy Communion
On Saturday next the 23rd May, First Holy Communion for boys and girls from Colehill NS will take place in Carrickedmond church at 11am. We wish the communion class of 2015 and their class teacher Miss Walsh best wishes for this important day. Hopefully the weather will stay good. The ceremony will be performed by Fr Charlie Healy PP and everyone is invited to this ceremony.
Carrickedmond GAA club are appealing for support from all in the parish to help cover the cost of drainage to the local GAA pitch which is ongoing at present. When complete the pitch will be available and playable all year round for everyone from children up to adult age. This is a large project been undertaking by the club and it is hoped that everyone will give their backing and help with costs and expenses to work been carried out. Committee members will be calling to all households in the parish over the coming weeks asking for help with the cost of the project or if you would like to make a donation to this project or would like more information please contact the club mobile number at 0858515392 or any club committee member.
At this time we all remember local students in both secondary and third level schools and colleges who are about to commence exams. Hopefully exams go as planned for all concerned.
Credit Union Scholarship
The Student Scholarship, sponsored by Ballymahon & District Credit Union is operational again this year. It is open to all Leaving Cert students attending the Vocational and Mercy Secondary Schools in Ballymahon. The student must be completing a FÁS Apprenticeship, full-time Certificate, Diploma or Degree course at any university, IT or approved third level college. All students who wish to enter the draw must be member of the Credit Union before 31 May 2015. The recipient of the Scholarship will receive €1,000 per annum for a maximum of three years.
Congratulations to the Colehill NS girls 7-aside football team who were crowned winners of the Cummann na mBunscol girl’s football blitz which took place in Stonepark on Saturday last. This was a great achievement by this young team who defeated Killoe, Agharrogan, Ardagh, Fermoyle and Ballinalee in this very competitive competition. After the final game the winning trophy was presented to team captain Nicolla Keenan. Well done to all the girls who have now added the Mini 7’s title to the division 2 championship title won recently. The following were the winning panel on Saturday last. Siobhain Egan, Caoimhe Mc Cormack, Leah Shannon, Lauren Mc Guire, Casey Mc Namara, Erica Cahill/O’Leary, Caoimhe Mulvey, Nicola Keenan, Megan Lyons and Catherine Cahill.
To the Holy Cross Abbey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary will take place on Sunday, May 31st. A free bus will be at the following stops on this date for all interested in travelling. The next monthly meeting of the local parish council group will take place on Tuesday 26th May at 8pm. All members are asked to attend.
Community Games The local parish community games track events took place recently in Forgney GAA pitch. Thanks to the Forgney club for the kind use of their facilities on the day. Congratulations to all our winners and well done to all who participated in the recent field day despite the very wet weather conditions The county finals will take place on Sunday 31st May at 12 o Clock in Ballymahon. All Qualifiers will be notified before the event. Results next week.
To Barry O’Farrell, Garreth Higgins and all involved with the Longford senior county football team on their great win over Offaly in the first round of the Leinster championship on Saturday last. Best of luck to all in the next round against the Dubs.
