End of an Era

The parishioners in the Coronea area have reluctantly decided to offer for sale the Parochial House which has been idle for some years. While a number of Priest’s have used it as a base over the years there has not been a Curate there for a long time. It’s a sign of the times we live in that there is no hope of having a Curate there in the future. The Pastoral Council have ambitious plans for improvement works at the Church and the proceeds of this sale will help to fund that project. The Auctioneer is Eamonn Gaffney, Kiltrasna.

Be Safe – Be Seen

With the dark evenings approaching we urge anyone going out walking or cycling to wear reflective clothing so that drivers can see them in good time. A small Flash lamp is an added bonus. It’s sometimes very difficult for drivers to see pedestrians especially if they are wearing dark clothing and there is an onus on everyone to take all precautions to avoid accidents.

Book Launch

Best wishes go to Eugene McGee former Cavan team manager who is launching a new book on Thursday of next week, 30th October in Croke Park. Eugene is probably best remembered as team manager of the Offaly team that defeated the great Kerry team in 1982 as they were minutes away from recording an unbelievable 5 in a row All Ireland titles. Eugene was also owner/Editor of the Longford Leader for many years. It’s a sign of the way the GAA works and the friendships that endure as Eugene has one of the greatest managers of all time Mick O’Dwyer to launch the book. “The GAA in my Time should be a bestseller.
