Back to school
This coming week marks the beginning of a new school year. Mohill community college opened on Tuesday 27th August for first year students, Wed 28th fifth years and on Thursday 29th for all students. St Manchan’s NS will re-open on Thursday 29th at 9.05am. We are privileged to have great schools with very good teachers who have produced excellent students who have been a credit to Mohill Community College, their parents and themselves.
On Sunday and Saturday next 31st August and 1st September at the 8pm and 10.30am a Mass gate collection in aid of Breffni Mental Health Support will be held. It is their annual collection, your donations will be appreciated.
On this Thursday night 29th August come to J’s Hotel where you can dance the night away to the music of ‘Show Bud’. Doors open 9.30. Door raffle. Refreshments served. All are welcome.
Mohill and district AC
An open 10K road race and 5K race/run/walk will take place next Sunday 1st Sept at 12 noon. Registration 10 euro per athlete, 20 euro per family. Prizes for the first three women and first three men across the finishing line. Never venture never win. Come and be part of a gallant team.
We congratulate two Leitrim teens Cait McHugh, Eslin and Jack Ledwith Carrigeen who have graduated from a programme designed to inspire them to become great leaders. They were joined by more than 300 other young people from across Ireland and the world during a recent graduation ceremony to mark the end of the 5th annual Foroige Albert Schweitzer leadership for life international youth conference. The study conducted by Dr Sue Redmond at NUI Galway and overseen by professor Mark Brennan from Penn State University USA was conducted over an eighteen month period amongst 400 young people who participated in the programme. Once again we congratulate Cait and Jack for being awarded the Foroige Certificate and we wish you continued success in the future.
The numbers drawn on the 19th August last were 6, 8, 15, 28. There was no jackpot winner. Lucky dip were as follows 1st 70 euro K L P O’Neill Gortletteragh; 2nd 40 euro Caroline Willis, Mohill; 3rd 20 euro Patricia Flynn, Breandrum. The draw on the 26th August was held in Js Hotel with the jackpot at 14,100 euro. Thanking you for your support.
Congratulations to St Manchan’s minors who have won their second championship victory with a win over Ballinamore last week. Don’t forget the Leitrim sub aqua clubs great Jamestown to Drumsna Swim and Finn Saturday next 31st August. Please register at Drumsna quay before 2pm. Fee 10 euro in aid of the Simon Community. Mohill Agricultural Show Committee wish to thank all who supported their fund raising raffle for 2013. Our warmest congratulations to the Leitrim Rose, Edwina Guckian on a brilliant performance on stage at the Rose of Tralee festival last week, not forgetting the Longford Rose Aisling Farrell who also gave a great performance. It was a joy to see our local roses shine on the night and we wish them all the best, you did your county proud.
