Longford Toastmasters

Thursday, 17th September at 8.20pm, Longford Arms Hotel, First floor, come and join us.

Toddler Group

Continues Mondays from 10.30am in Curraghcahill. A great way to meet other mums, share support and encourage social skills in children. €3 per family includes tea and snacks. Volunteers also needed to help organise the group.

Golf Society

Their annual weekend away takes place 16th and 17th October in the Headford Arms Hotel and playing on both the new and old Headford Golf Club courses. €50 deposit per person to be paid by Sept 19th, which is the date of our outing to Athlone Golf Club. Contact Eoghan Fagan for further details.

All-Ireland Boxes Draw

Sean Connolly’s All-Ireland Boxes draw is taking place for this years all-Ireland football final. Limited to 100 boxes, which cost €50 each. Top prize fund of €2,500 with €500 of a prize at half time and €2,000 at full time. The winner will be determined by the score line at half and full time. There are a limited number of boxes left so do not delay. Pre-game draw for box positions will take place on Friday night at 10pm in the Stags Head.

Playground Committee

Volunteers are needed to form a committee for the upkeep and maintenance of the playground. All welcome to put their names forward, the more the better. Please email the notes if you are interested


Numbers drawn 3, 7, 17, 25. Winners: Anne Hosey, Ann Treacy, Jack Shaughnessy, Barney O’Leary. Seller’s prize: Pat Devine. Draw takes place in Farrell’s Bar for the month of September at 9pm. Jackpot is €4,000.

Granard CCE

The John Dungan Branch of Comhaltas will hold their AGM on Thursday, 17th at 8pm in the Granard Area Action Group meeting room, Main Street, Granard. The branch is due to host the county Fleadh in May 2016 in Granard and in order for this to be a success we need new enthusiastic committee members who are willing to get involved. We hope to bring our Irish music and culture to the fore in celebrating the 1916 centenary. Please show your support in keeping our tradition alive by attending the meeting. On Friday September 18th in Arva Heritage Centre you are invited to come along to a cultural evening where you can enjoy the best of Irish music, song and dance. All members are welcome to take part. Harvest Service

Friday, 25th September at 8pm St. John’s Church will hold its annual harvest service. The choir of St. Mary’s Church from Howth in Dublin will attend on the night. All are welcome.

Coffee Morning

The annual Longford Hospice Coffee morning will be held on Thursday 17th September from 9am to 12 noon in the Thomas Ashe Hall. Please support this worthy cause.


We wish Marie Milton good health for the future as she recently retired from her position as district nurse in the area. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty and has shown great kindness and compassion to all she met and treated during her career. We wish her all the best.

Bus Service

Donnelly’s bus service to the colleges in Galway has resumed with pick-ups at Granard 8pm, Edgeworthstown 8.15pm and Longford cathedral carpark at 8.30pm. Contact Seamus 086 3901060
