May walk

May walk

The Tidy Towns annual nature walk takes place on Bank Holiday Monday the 4th of May. This is always a beautiful walk on the roads around Lough Slawn because of its high heritage value. Lough Slawn and the surrounding meadows have now been given special protection in the Longford Co. Development Plan because of the rare plant life that has been allowed to develop over the last 50 years. Dr Catherine Farrell, an Ecologist with Bord na Mona will give a talk on this unique area at the end of the walk. Valuable prizes will be raffled for all who take part. The walk starts from The Hill at 2:30pm.

The death occurred on Tuesday the 21st of April last of Danny Farrell, Elfeet and Inchcleraun. Danny was one of life’s true gentleman, a hardworking family man who lived his life with honesty and integrity. All his life he had a tremendous affinity with the lake Lough Ree from when he was born right through to his passing. His death will leave a huge void in the lives of all those who knew him. To his wife Monica, daughters Breda, Bernadette, Monica, sons Herbert and Donal and all his many family and friends, we extend our deepest sympathy. May his Soul Rest in Peace.

Well done to the team from St. Mary’s National School who, following a tie breaker came third in the All Ireland Pioneer Table Quiz in Cavan last Saturday. A subsequent visit to McDonalds sponsored by Cashel Pioneers was much appreciated.
