Race Night

Abbeylara GAA Club will hold their annual Race Night on Saturday, 27 December in Crawford’s Bar / Lounge. Lines are on sale at €10 per line. Gun Club Christmas Draw

The Gun Club are holding their annual Christmas draw and party in Crawford’s Lounge on Saturday, 20 December, music on the night is by Na Fianna. Tickets for their draw are now on sale by club members and in local shops, 1st prize €300, 2nd prize €200, 3rd prize €100 and 4th prize €50; tickets cost €2 each or 3 for €5. Your support will be appreciated.

Floral arranging

Granard Garden Club will hold their Christmas Flower arranging night on Tuesday, December 15 next at 8.00pm in Lus na Greine. All arrangements made will be raffled on the night and refreshments will be served and all are welcome.


Clonfin Commemoration committee wish to sincerely thank all who subscribed so generously to their church gate collection in Granard last weekend. The committee are planning a much needed clean up of the monument site in Clonfin and greatly appreciate all the support they receive.

Country Markets

Patrons of Granard Country Markets are reminded that the last market before Christmas is on Friday, 19 December from 8.30am to 11.00am. All at the market wish their customers and friends a very happy Christmas and thank them for their support in 2014. The market will reopen on Friday 16 January 2015 and look forward to continued support.

Club Meeting

Santa Dash

Ho, ho, ho! ‘Tis the season’. Start you 12 days of Christmas with a fun day out for all the family. Lisryan are kicking off the festive season in style with a 3k Santa Dash on Sunday, December 14 at 11.00am. Prizes on the day for the best dressed Mr and Mrs Claus, best dressed Claus family, and best dressed Junior Santa. Chat with your neighbours post-dash over a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie. There will be kids’ treats, raffle and a special race starter on the day. See you there!


The Solemn Novena to Our Blessed Lady takes place in St. Mary’s, Granard on Wednesday, 10 December at 7.30pm and will continue until Wednesday 17 December. This Novena is a time of reflection, petition, praise and thanksgiving. We invite you to be part of this great gift.

Community Playgroup

Granard Community Playgroup would like to thank everyone who sponsored our Breakfast Morning in the Mart on Sunday last. It was a great success and we are astonished as to how kind everyone has been. Your generosity will have a big impact on our facility.

Longford Social Services

Hold their annual collection at Masses on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December. They deliver meals on wheels in our area and provide transport services to and from hospitals, clinics and St. Joseph’s Care Centre. To provide these facilities, it is necessary for them to hold a collection. Please support.

County Choir

Longford County Choir will perform a Christmas Celebration Concert in St. Mel’s Cathedral Centre on Sunday, 21 December at 7pm. Special guests on the night will include St. Chrstopher’s Choir and the well known local soprano Emer Barry. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to local charities and St. Christopher’s Services. Tickets cost €10 and are available at 087 6854876.

25 Card Game

A 25 Card Game takes place every Friday night in the Bay Horse, Granard at 9.30pm. This Friday night we will see all players playing for a Christmas Turkey/Ham of their choice. New players are most welcome. There is also live music here every Saturday Night with refreshments served on the night.

Scór na nÓg

Congratulations to all our participants in the Scór na nÓg competition which was held on Sunday last in Lanesboro. Our Set dancers advanced to the next round, the Leinster Semi Final, to be held in Ballymore, Co. Westmeath on Saturday 13 December. Commiserations to all our other competitors who although they didn’t emerge winners, they did Northern Gaels proud. We wish our Set Dancers the best of luck and would appreciate your support on the day.
